Week 7
It was great to see everyone again on Thursday! During our presentation time in class we traveled to several different continents and learned many fascinating facts about each of the destinations. I am so proud of each of the kiddos-- they are such smart, creative and fun little people!
The presentation topic for the next two weeks is a make or do demonstration. Each student will be given 5 minutes to present/demonstrate, so in light of the extended time, half of the class will present this week, and half next week.
This week:
Charlie
Eden
Keigan
August
Next week:
Scarlett
Ruth
Gideon
Jackson
Also, remember to send your child's tin whistle with them. I was super impressed with the tin whistle skills going on in our class. Nice work, everyone!
Last week, while we were waiting for our sun prints to develop we talked a little bit about the sun and NASA's STEREO satellites. As promised, here are the links to the videos that I referenced:

Week 6
Hope you all had a great week off! Looking forward to seeing everyone again on Thursday!
There are quite a few upcoming activities/events on the home page of the blog, so be sure and mark your calendars.
This Thursday, we begin our journey into the world of Tin Whistle. :) Dust them off, give them a good wash, and get ready to make music!
See you soon!
Week 3
We had a great time in class last Thursday, but we certainly missed Gideon and August!
The students are doing so well with learning and absorbing the material, and I am so impressed with their geography skills.
Don't forget to check the home page of the blog for the suggested Presentation topic for this week. The kiddos have been armed with some fantastic presentations-- well done parents for helping them prepare and present. Such a fantastic skill for them to perfect.
Can't wait to see you all Thursday!
Week 1
I so enjoyed our class on Thursday! The students were enthusiastic, participated well, and soaked up the memory work. It was a lot of fun to hear about their summer adventures and snippets about their favorite things during presentation time. Such a great group of kiddos!

The song that we used for last week's English-- along with songs for upcoming weeks-- can be found by clicking on this link: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o-YaRR3p7as
Super catchy tunes!
If you have any questions about further resources, links, etc., that were used to present new grammar, please don't hesitate to contact me at heathmocha2823@hotmail.com or 503.929.2451

If you still have your child's science journal from last year, please send it with them this Thursday and we will continue to use it for this year as well. If you are in need of a new one, let me know and I can order it for you. The cost will be $1.00 per journal.
Have a great week! See you Thursday!

Mrs. Davis
Hi! I'm Heather Davis, and this year I am the Apprentice B tutor at BGCC. I am excited to meet you and your children and I look forward to us exploring the wonders of Cycle 2 together during this 2016-2017 school year.
By way of introduction, here is a little about me and my family. My husband, Matt, and I have been married for 16 years and we have three boys: Ethan (11), Charlie (7), and Owen (5). Matt works in Vancouver as a construction estimator. Matt, the boys, and I enjoy spending time with each other while exploring God's world around us, taking in the beauty of nature, traveling, cooking, creating and up-cycling, and inevitably making messes and noise along the way. We don't take ourselves too seriously, and we like to think outside the box. We are beginning our 7th year of homeschooling, and our second year at BGCC. It is a delight to be part of the BGCC Community as we continue our journey of learning, knowing God and making Him known.

As we look forward to our first community day on Thursday, September 8th, I have listed below a few important details for the upcoming year. My parent helpers for the year are Mrs. Spikkeland and Mrs. Glanzer. They will be present each week to assist in the classroom and I am very grateful for the skills and the experience they will bring to our class!
Here is our class roster:
- August Spikkeland
- Jackson Fick
- Eden Stahley
- Gideon Langeliers
- Charlie Davis
- Ruth Glanzer
- Keigan Rodriguez
- Scarlett Perin
SCHEDULE:
9:00 - 9:20 Assembly
9:20 - 9:50 New Grammar
9:50 - 10:20 Art
10:20 - 10:50 Presentations
10:50 - 11:20 Science
11:20 - 11:50 Review Grammar
11:50 - 12:00 Clean-up
12:00 - 12:20 Lunch
SUPPLIES: Please have your child bring 2 sharpened pencils, and a 2 pocket folder in their backpack where I can send home any paperwork, if needed. It will be a great help if you can contribute to class supplies by bringing any of the following: fine tip dry erase markers, colored pencils, colored markers and magic erasers (without added cleaners).
SNACKS: We will have snacks each morning. Please send your child with a simple snack and a water bottle, clearly marked with their name.
PRESENTATIONS: Presentations are an important part of the Classical Conversations program. They are a great opportunity to gain confidence and build important skills. Each child will be strongly encouraged to participate in our weekly presentations, which are scheduled to begin in our class at 10:20 this year. The suggested 2016-2017 Presentation schedule can be found on the home page. The same schedule will be used by all tutors on the BGCC campus.
There is no need to prepare for the first week's presentation, as it will be an impromptu interview by your children's tutor. For the following weeks, early preparation for weekly presentations is encouraged to help your child feel confident and comfortable when it is his/her time to present. They can practice their presentation at home to siblings, parents, grandparents, pets, or even stuffed animals. If the week's presentation is 'Show and Tell', please be sure that the item they are bringing is small enough to fit in their backpack in order to keep disruptions during class at a minimum.
EMAILS/UPDATES: All parent/teacher correspondence for the Apprentice B class will be posted here, on the blog. Each week, updates can be found by clicking on the APPRENTICE B tab in the top menu of the home page.
If you have any issues or information you'd like me to take into consideration as I prepare for the upcoming year, please don't hesitate to contact me. I can be reached via email at heathmocha2823@hotmail.com or by phone/text @ 503.929.2451.
Thank you for the opportunity to spend our Thursday mornings together learning, discovering and sharing.
-Heather
