WEEK 5:
Good evening, Journeyman A Families!
A couple of notes for tomorrow / this week... Just for fun, I am sending home a coloring page sheet from my Illuminated Alphabet coloring book. They each chose their preferred letter last week. If we had time, I'd have them decorate them in class, but alas - as we all know, the CC Day flows by with rapidity. If you could have them color in their Initial at home in the next week or two, and bring them back to me, I'd appreciate it! I have something fun I would like to do with them....but eventually, they will return to your child. If they enjoy the Illuminated Coloring, there are several fun coloring books of Illuminated Manuscripts on Amazon.com.
I have loved having your students in class. We are having fun together! A special thank you to Ms. Holly for pulling together our review games each week and Ms. Willow for being our class Banker for Treasure Store. I am so grateful to these two ladies!
See you all tomorrow. And remember....in just a few short weeks, we will all be hearing the musical tinkle of the Merry Tin Whistle. Time to dig them out of storage, if they are not already displayed in a prominent position of your home! ;-)

WEEK 3:
Good evening, Journeyman A Families!
I hope this finds you all having enjoyed the last week and *maybe* up for a late evening of checking our CC blog prior to class tomorrow.
My boys and I returned from a wonderful, whirlwind of a vacation to Universal Studios and Disneyland last weekend, and I've been trying to recover and get back on my feet ever since! It was a truly blessed time with my boys, but it may not have been my best timing to have planned it the second week of school! Running on marbles describes my recovery process! I am so grateful to Shaunna for stepping in and filling in the (many) gaps I left for her. :-)
A couple of notes:
Treasure Store will be opening this week! Your kiddos have been working hard to earn treasure dollars towards shopping for items in our Treasure Store. We may not shop every week, but as often as our schedule allows - I'll try to make it available for them. There will be assorted candies and snacks, along with non-food items of varying prices. Please work with your children to determine if there may be family restrictions on what items can be purchased (mostly referring to food items here).
Updates: I have decided to use this blog as a communication tool vs a step by step rehash of what we are doing in class. All of my students are experienced in this program, as are their families, and I have found in the past that typing detailed, step by step information is rarely helpful or used. (Believe me, I have spent HOURS in the past typing detailed hand motions to find that no one was using or reading them!) If you would like me to list something specific each week that is not available on the main blog, please let me know.
Questions on Class? Please call, email, text, or pull me aside, and I would be happy to walk you through what we have done in class for the week or how your kiddo is doing.
Thanks everyone! See you all tomorrow!
Ann
M E E T Y O U R T U T O R:
Mrs. Ordway
Hello, everyone! My name is Ann Ordway, and I am looking forward with eager anticipation to greeting each of your precious kiddos tomorrow at Classical Conversations.
I thought I'd take a moment to tell you a little about myself and my family. Once upon a time, I was a "never going to stay at home career woman.....who would have two children, a boy and a girl....and would have never considered homeschooling or a simple country life." A decade and 4 children later (Caleb (10), Emet (8), Anna Ruth (6), and Gracie (4)), I find myself blessed to be in our 4th year of homeschooling....3rd year of CC...and my second year as a CC tutor! My family and I live here in Battle Ground, WA chasing several chickens and a few pets...and frequently entertaining guests (all of whom we consider dear friends). I dearly love travel adventures, taking pictures, writing, a long walk, a good book, and morning prayer and Bible study. (Let's be honest, that's what gets me through most days!) My husband Jason is a Civil Engineer here in Vancouver. Oh, and the end of summer snuck up on me....so I'm still scrambling to get my feet under me! :-)
Below are a few notes regarding our classroom this year:
I would love for the kids to address me as Ms. Ann. While, true, Mrs. Ordway is my name - I am unaccustomed to answering to it!

The parent helpers for our Journeyman A class this year will be Willow Morse and Holly Cole.

SUPPLIES: Please have your child bring a pencil and backpack for their lunch and any take home or presentation related items. All other supplies will be provided, however if you have any extra dry erase pens, coloring pens, colored pencils, hand sanitizer or wipes laying around, I'd happily take the donation for our classroom, as we seem to go through a lot of them!
TREASURE STORE: I plan to run a "treasure store" for the JOURNEYMAN A class this year. They will have a chance to earn treasure dollars for thoughtfulness, sharing, class participation, good listening, and the like. The treasure store will contain stickers and small, and inexpensive toys (of varying "prices"). The store won't open until Thursday September 22, but they will begin earning treasure dollars immediately!
PRESENTATIONS/SNACKS: We will have snack time at 10:15 each morning. Please send your child with a simple snack (2-3 low mess items) and a water bottle, clearly marked with their name.
PRESENTATIONS: Presentations are an important part of the Classical Communications program. They are a great opportunity to gain confidence and build important skills. Each child will be strongly encouraged to participate in our weekly presentations, which are scheduled to begin in our class at 10:20am this year. The suggested 2015-2016 Presentation schedule can be found on the home page. For our age group I encourage that you try to have your child follow the suggested presentation schedule, but the goal is that they would get up and learn to feel comfortable in front of their peers.
There is no need to prepare for the first week's presentation, as it will be an impromptu interview by your children's tutors. For the following weeks, early preparation for weekly presentations is encouraged to help your child feel confident and comfortable when it is his/her time to present. They can practice their presentation at home to siblings, parents, grandparents, pets, or even stuffed animals!!
EMAILS/UPDATES: All parent/teacher correspondence for the Abecedarian B class will be posted here, on the blog. I will update the JOURNEYMAN A tab in the top menu of the home page with a recap of the previous community day after class each week, by Sunday @ midnight. All updates will be current by Sunday mornings. Please be sure to save this webpage under your “favorites” so you can easily have our co-op information, class information, updates, and announcements at your fingertips.
If you have any questions or special considerations for me as I prepare (allergies, learning issues, personality traits, etc) please do not hesitate to let me know. I can be reached via email at jaordway@hotmail.com, or by phone/text @ 360 - 702 - 9289.
I look forward to the year of learning, discovery, and growth ahead! See you tomorrow!
Regards,
Ann
